Adèle Le Badezet, an environmental engineering student at UniLaSalle Rennes, and Thomas Viveret, in charge of ecological and societal transformation at UniLaSalle Beauvais, are back from COP 27.
They share with us their first feedback, while waiting for the "assessment" conference that will take place on December 7.
"On the one hand, I'm glad I was able to participate in this COP, I wouldn't trade these moments for anything.
I would not trade these moments for anything in the world. All these new meetings and new knowledge are precious to me.
On the other hand, I am disappointed. Some people just come to talk about their business and/or their accomplishments, which makes it seem like a big show.
We can put pressure on the negotiators, but they remain mostly closed to open dialogue with civil society. Human rights have been completely relegated to the background.
I have a mixed record: the COP brought me a lot personally, but I brought nothing to the COP."
"I have the impression of having attended a COP27 that was too protocol-like, not in keeping with the climate emergency. The fact that the sponsors or delegations were made up of oil and gas lobbyists is worrying, and suggests certain concerns for the future...
Nevertheless, it was a very enriching experience, allowing us to be confronted with the plural realities of the different countries of the world. The civil society has a real weight, a role to play in this body which is the only one currently allowing to advance on the climatic stakes at a global scale.
