In the summer of 2024, UniLaSalle published its Bilan Carbone for the year 2023.
The Bilan covers six categories of emissions:
- Category 1: direct emissions linked to the company's activities
- Category 2: indirect emissions linked to electrical and non-electrical energy consumption
- Category 3: indirect emissions linked to transport
- Category 4: indirect emissions linked to purchased products
- Category 5: indirect emissions from products sold
- Category 6: all other indirect emissions
Reminder: what is the Bilan Carbone?
As defined by ADEME, the Bilan Carbone is used to quantify the greenhouse gas emissions generated by an organization's activities over the course of a year. Armed with this analysis, the organization can then identify the priority actions to be taken to reduce its carbon emissions.
Travel, 1st source of greenhouse gas emissions at UniLaSalle
In 2023, UniLaSalle's Bilan Carbone will amount to 16,337 TCO2e, or 4.07 TCO2e per student, which represents around 27,000 km flown, or the equivalent of a round trip between France and Papua New Guinea.
Within this Bilan Carbone, 51% of emissions are due to travel (student and employee travel), 32% to purchasing and 11% to energy use.
A Group action plan with campus specificities
The proposed action plan is based on the three most significant emissions observed in the Bilan Carbone study:
- Adopting a sustainable mobility policy for students and employees
- Adopting a sustainable and responsible purchasing policy
- Reinforce the implementation of the energy sobriety plan
