BioBlitz, a lightning-fast participatory inventory of biodiversity on the Ker Lann campus in Bruz (35)

Are you interested in biodiversity?
Would you like to know more?
Are you curious to find out more?
Are you an expert in fauna/flora, or a particular species/area?

Come and share your knowledge and meet people: Wednesday, April 17 and Thursday, April 18, 2024.

Whether you're an expert or not, we've got a project to share with you!

The BioBlitz is a study of a precise geographical area, where a group of scientists and volunteers carry out an intensive biological inventory in a flash (blitz in German). The aim is to identify and list all the species of living organisms present in a given area.

The project is :

  • Free
  • Participatory
  • Open to all: no prerequisites
  • aimed at citizens, associations and students

The way the inventory is conducted is playful: a lightning inventory of local flora and fauna with an educational entrance where groups of people (students, citizens, children, etc.) will set off with an expert to explore the campus and discover the animal and plant species that surround us.

The idea is to enrich participatory biodiversity atlases and raise awareness of the issues surrounding the collapse of biodiversity.

The "BioBlitz" project has already taken place in a number of areas, notably on the Beaulieu and Villejean campuses in Rennes last year.

The project was initiated by the CRIC DD (Collectif Rennais Inter-Campus pour le Développement Durable) and is passed on from year to year.
Last year, 33 volunteer experts were mobilized, and 250 people took part in the inventory organized by Rennes 2, Institut Agro Rennes-Angers, Université de Rennes and EHESP.

To carry out this inventory, we need everyone's help:

The working group for the organization of this project is currently made up of ENSAI, ECAM, the City of Bruz and UniLaSalle, but it remains open.

Several participation slots are possible:
1h / 2h / 1 half-day / 1 day / 2 days

The aim of an event like the Bioblitz is to showcase the biodiversity of our campus, raise awareness of the issues involved in preserving it, and facilitate interaction between residents, students and professionals:

  • Educational discovery of the flora and fauna of the Ker Lann campus
  • Promote awareness of the richness of biodiversity and its preservation
  • Facilitate inter-activity between campus structures and create links with local residents
  • Share approaches, skills and know-how
  • Bringing the campus to life in conjunction with a multitude of local players.

For scientific coordination, we will be supported by the clef living lab.
