Master the technical, regulatory and normative tools required for a transition to sustainable buildings (housing, commercial and industrial buildings) with an energy, environmental and life-cycle vision.
The challenges of the energy transition
The Energy Transition program meets three major challenges:
- Supporting the energy transition of companies and regions.
- Assessing the environmental impact of products, services and organizational systems from the design stage, throughout their entire lifecycle.
- Take up the challenge of energy decarbonization and propose concrete development solutions.
On completion of this course, students will be able to respond to the current challenges of the energy transition by proposing concrete solutions for decarbonization and environmental preservation, and supporting the transition of companies or regions.
Course details
Environmental Assessment Major
- From environmental impact to quantification
- LCA, a multi-impact life-cycle method
- Carbon footprint
minors
Each semester includes 2 blocks dedicated to minors, corresponding to 54 hours of complementary courses that enable students to complete their training in a related field.
Proposed minors
Block 1: Biotechnologies (bioprocesses and environmental microbiology) / Industrial and community waste management / Research and development in environmental sciences / Identification of Geo, Bio Energies (Label Géo-bio énergies) / Scientific approach - Research - Beginner
Block 2: Geographic Information System (GIS) / Polymer life cycle / Environmental authorization / Scientific approach - Research - Beginner / Consolidate your English level - Validate the required level
In semester 8, two majors are offered:
- a main major: Environmental Engineering Technology and Engineering
- an opening major taught in English: Ecodesign and Circular Economy
Environmental Engineering and Technology Major
- Pollution treatment
- Prevention, re-use and innovation
minors
Each semester includes 2 blocks dedicated to minors, corresponding to 54 hours of complementary teaching, enabling students to complete their training in a related field.
Several minors are offered on the Rouen or Beauvais campuses, some of which require on-site travel (others can be taken by distance learning).
Some examples of minor courses
Block 1: Laboratory tools for ecotoxicological evaluation / Entrepreneurship / Basics and fundamentals of LCA / Project management: from forecast to agile / Scientific approach - Research - Intermediate / Working and communicating in a French-speaking environment / The multilingual engineer - international professional insertion / Energy sustainability in farms
Block 2: Evaluating and anticipating the impacts of human activities on territories using modeling approaches / Field diagnostics in spring / Research and development in environmental sciences / Scientific approach - Research - Intermediate / Consolidate your level of English

In the Energy Transition pathway, minors are taught in French or English, and can be taken on the Rennes campus, the Rouen campus or the Beauvais campus, depending on the chosen theme.
Some examples of minor courses
Block 1: Water management / Laboratory tools for ecotoxicological evaluation / Energy sustainability in farms / Quantification and production of Geo, Bio Energies (Label Géo-bio énérgies) / Project management: From forecast to agile / Entrepreneurship...
Block 2: Innovation, Carbon neutrality and Territories (Label Géo-bio énérgies) / Evaluating and anticipating the impacts of human activities on territories using modeling approaches / Spring field diagnostics / Research and development in environmental sciences / Scientific approach - Research - Intermediary
In Semester 9, you can choose to follow your own path, by selecting from :
- one of the two main majors of the Energy Transition course, which goes into greater depth in this field:
- Transforming Territories
- Sustainable Buildings, Energies, Transitions
- one or more opening majors, designed to broaden your skills in another field:
- Ecological Engineering (Rennes campus)
- CSR/RSO - Changing behaviors (Rennes campus) I
- Intrapreneurship, entrepreneurship and innovation (Rennes campus)
- a semester, double degree or degree-granting stay in France or abroad (from 12 to 18 months for a double degree or degree-granting stay)
The final project is based on an in-company work placement or research placement for students, or on the long period spent in a company for apprentices.
A final dissertation is written and presented orally.
